Tasmania was originally known as Van Dieman's Land, after its discoverer, Abel Tasman. The present name was adopted in 1853.

There were only three values of Chalon Head Vandiemensland stamps: 1p, 2p and 4p.

Misplaced Entry

This stamp shows a strong upwards shift, with the upper frameline duplicated in the upper margin, marks in much of VANDIEMENSLAND, and heavy lines in the bottoms of both POSTAGE and FOUR PENCE.
