Plate 1 Left Pane of
the 2¢ Maple Leaf is a treasure trove of misplaced
entries and re-entries. As well as having a full top plate
strip of 20 in my own collection, I was also able to examine
a full proof sheet of this pane that John Jamieson of
Saskatoon Stamp Centre purchased in the Archives Sale back
in 1990. This confirms that the varieties you will see below
are also found on the printed stamps that were released to
the public (good news for collectors). The first three
vertical positions on the pane from #'s 1, 11 & 21 ALL
exhibit Major Misplaced Entries! There are clear remnants of
partially erased designs showing from 0.6 - 0.8 mm above the
actual stamp entries. Examination of the photographs below
will show these details. All of them are absolutely
delightful! Enjoy! Position #7 shows
evidence of an even stronger shifted Misplaced Entry, a full
1.6 mm to the right. Subtle, but gorgeous! Meanwhile, Position #2
shows a beautiful Major Re-entry, with a clockwise shift,
visible over the entire design, but particularly lovely in
the upper right (see POSTAGE, the leaf and the frame) and
lower right (see the leaf and frame). The lower right corner
of Position #8 also shows a lovely re-entry. This is much
sharper on the proof than the actual stamp. *1 Scott
